Stoneware (508), Shino, Temmoku Glazes, Natural Ash, Wood Fired in Noborigama Kiln

These vessels are wheel thrown and embellished with incised designs referenced to Native North American Indian images/symbols.  The vessel’s rich surface treatments are achieved by wood ashes that follow the flames’s path. The flame begins at the wood box entrance and travels to the arched kiln chambers and then escapes through the chimney. Each work is placed in the kiln with care, hoping to understand the flames path, but knowing the flames have their own ideas.
