From a Woman’s Hand: Present Visions/Past Realities
The exhibition will present a broad array of viewpoints on the exhibition theme. All of the artists are women, and all of the work will address personal views of womanhood in ways ranging from the spiritual to the bodily to issues of history and community. Some of the participants are nationally active, and some are regional (some are both). We are aiming for an artistically rich and varied exhibition.
This exhibition concept is especially appropriate for the Ellis School, which is a private girls’ school for K-12 located in Shadyside. The Ellis School has a long tradition of educating Pittsburgh girls for leadership roles as women in the community. The Ellis School has already committed to hosting our exhibition. Ceil Sturdevant, as a longtime teacher at the school, is a good contact for the exhibition venue as well as the exhibition itself. We have plans for the artists to get involved with the school in various ways, such as giving talks.
All of the artists have committed to having their work available for the exhibition. Most will be making new work especially for this show. We undertake to provide our own pedestals, install and de-install our work, pay for shipping (or hand-deliver) and do everything else that is necessary for a successful show.
