Egyptian Sanctuaries I

56" X 42" X 18"

Egyptian Sanctuaries II

54" X 40" X 20"

Stoneware, Oxides, Terra Sigillata, Bees Wax, Gas Fired

The two figurative forms are inspired by childhood memories and my travels to Egypt. My favorite imaginary animals in Dr. Suess's books were very tall birds with long necks like giraffes. The bird image is also referenced to the Egyptian goose symbol, Gebi, signifying judgement and balance.

The three openings found on each piece, which represent choices one makes in life, are inspired by the unforgettable experience of crawling through the ancient passage ways in the Giza Great Pyramid of Khufu. The skeletal details symbolize core knowledge or wisdom.
